Whatchu Know ‘Bout Them Hawthorne Headhunters?

In my infinite travels around the internet I often stumble upon Seattle related materials and it just so happens that yesterday I ran across a group called The Hawthorne Headhunters.  In the words of Martin Lawrence you might be asking, “Who dis?” and how does this relate to townbidnessmain?  If you’ve been around Seattle very long you might recognize one of the dudes in that picture.  It is none other than Seattle’s own Proh Mic, formerly one half of (along w/ boardsman Bean One) the rap duo Footprints.  I’d kill for a copy of the Footprints album but that’s another story for another day.  Since his days in Footprints, Proh has transplanted himself to the L.A. area and has continued to work on music almost religiously.  His new project is the aforementioned Hawthorne Headhunters and I think I’ll let words from their Myspace describe what they do:

The Hawthorne Headhunters is a project made up of the individuals; Stoney Rock, Ced No and Proh Mic. The project was conceived in Ced’s Studio in that special place between Long Beach and Los Angeles - Hawthorne, California. The St. Louis natives Ced and Veto, and Seattle transplant, Proh Mic locked it down under the shine of Hollywood Park and created some sounds in the great traditions of musical heavyweight projects such as Funkadelic, Headhunters, Soulquarians, Native Tongues Posse and Bloomfield, Kooper, Stills’ Super Session. Crossing the lines between the Southern influenced tastes of the producer/singer/rapper Stoney Rock, keyboard and studio controller Ced No, fused with the next level northern bounce of rapper/producer Proh Mic, the HH’s is at the crossroads of funk, soul, jazz and hip hop from players already years deep into the game. Look for the album to drop later this year on the new HVW8 records imprint.

It’s good to see local cats still doing shit and what Proh and his gang are up to is some pretty funky shit.  They are down with Stones Throw artists Dam Funk as you can see in one of the videos below. HERE is their first single titled “She Wanna”.  Shit is the perfect blend of nice and funky...I’m bumpin it!

And for an added bonus, I’m sharing with you this ridiculous funk & boogie mix that them Dam Funk boys threw together.  Download it HERE
