Mother Fussin’
One of Stonesthrow.com‘s awesomest podcasts was a Peanut Butter Wolf mix called Area Codes. It has the most hilarious early-sounding hiphop I’ve ever heard. You can’t download it anymore; there is no archive. The best song on it is “Mother Fussin’.” Daddy D raps “mother fussin’” like it’s “motherfuckin’,” but he’s way too nice to actually swear. He raps about arguing with his mom, and how she always wants him to clean the house, take out the garbage, etc. What a drag.
“God gave me a mother, and I’m thankful for that/ But when she starts fussin’, I feel like givin’ her back.”
It’s often hard to find individual songs from Peanut Butter Wolf’s podcasts in the commercial world. Sometimes, like on the Valentine’s Day one he just did with Prince Paul, I think he’s actually writing and recording songs himself that intentionally sound old and goofy and DJing them next to cuts by “established” artists. That’s one of his specialties: totally not giving a fuck about what’s commonly taken for a professional sound. I was surprised to find “Mother Fussin’” on the internet without too much trouble at a record store in Stockholm.
So, I don’t know how to share the joys of “Mother Fussin’” with you. Maybe somebody can unearth the audio. It’s trapped in my iTunes. I swear, it will make you laugh so hard.
