Cam’ron - I Hate My Job

Heard the new Cam’ron track today surfing Nah Right.

Holy shit, it’s awesome.

Cam loves rapping on power ballad slowness. Add a little classic-TV-theme-song Billy Joel-ish schmaltz, and it’s a wrap. He is the garbageman of the karaoke bar. He is Spokane. He is New Jersey. He is everywhere knuckleheads get drunk. While those other Dips or ex-Dips or whatever think Bon Jovi’s hardcore, I feel Cam likes the goofy, silly, outsized arena stuff for what it is. Big and stupid. All American. Hella fun.

Let alone what he’s rapping about, which is hilarious and totally well done.

But where is the sample from? Don’t tell me it’s from that One on One TV show. SRSLY, somebody tell me it’s not from that TV show…

can anyone who just read matson’s argument of this song as explanatory, representative or even on any level typical of cam’ron tell me with any honesty that they believe he heard the song?

cam’s told impassioned yarns before but this is the only one whose tone didn’t qualify each lyric as distant from his present situation. i’ve heard him talk about noticing a lover has attempted suicide and slapping his mother with detectable NOSTALGIA. stop trying to justify our baser tastes for these crackers, dog.

are you serious? you think it’s autobiographical? he’s riding for the blue collar, speaking for people and to people and as a person he may have been or known. he’s got the sense to do hard-times rhymes over this beat, and over other stuff like journey, total everyman epic cheese. and i love the everyman angle from a guy in purple fur. but he’s definitely sincere, no doubt.

of course it’s not autobiographical. dude’s been rapping with a buzz since high school. i’m just peeing on the notion that this song, besides the beat’s melancholy diddy bop (and even that hasn’t been pure in the arsenal for SO long ‘cause they actually tried to hiphopetize stuff like “built this city"), is in the cam’ron tradition

dawson, idk what to say. this song is pure cam. very similar to “just us.”

lol i don’t think we’re gonna agree ‘cause that’s the song that i felt most exemplified my point

If I listen to this song with my girl ears on I think that song is a crock of insincere, condescending, patronizing bullshit.

If I listen with my pimp ears on I hear some antique game that only works for chickenhawks.

If I listen to it with my rap ears on I’m hearing Cam do Cam and that’s always been good enough for me.

i’m drunk, but

barfly summed up both sides

but why i gotta be the girl ears

ftw

ndrwmtsn 3 years, 3 months ago

nah, actually i’m girl ears on the beat, and reality ears on the rhyme, but pimp ears on the thinking about it

Yes! lol

i’m rap ears on everything cam’s ever put out but my girl ears are definitely in the back of my head looking at me, hands on hips, when i listen to “just us” and “harlem streets”

This is tight. Hella ghetto-ass video, but the interview clips are hilarious!

“You know we’re not hiring murderers, right?”

Proud of you, Cam.

That’s a great song for sure. We are always singing it when something pisses us off at the job or when our salaries are late. Of course I hope that I won’t have to sing it again soon. Thanks for the song!
