Blue Scholars - “Fou Lee”

I want adobo. Not chicken adobo necessarily, pork would be the math matter of fact. Filipino food is high on my list of good goddamn grub. The best I ever had was at my homeboy Steve’s cousin’s debut when she turned 18, if I remember right. I still lust for the adobo and pancit I had that night, or even just the stuff that Steve’s mom would have on hand in the kitchen. Right now, I’d settle for some solid lumpia, unlike what I recently got at Lumpia Land across from the Baltic. Shit tasted like a sausage link in a wrapper, all at a buck a pop.

I used to love eating those lumpias at the Vesper Lounge too, which used to be a lilttle cutty spot by Aristocrats (is that still there?) heads used to party at for a minute; first time I ever set foot in there, I believe, was to open up for the first Blue Scholars’ CD release party ever as part of Cancer Rising. Us and Gabe Teodros set it off and Geo and Saba represented lovely for an intimate crowd. Even though they were the toast of the town even then, it’s straight-up amazed me to see what they’ve accomplished since. They’ve done a lot for the town, even if they’ve been begrudged respect by OG’s and sideline haters alike.

The CD release for the Scholars’ excellent Cinemetropolis, which has had Tumblr on smash for months now, goes down June 17 & 18 at Neumos with DJ Sosa on the wheels. The 17th also features Helluvastate and JusMoni and is hosted by Macklemore; the 18th sports Brothers From Another and The Good Sin with yours truly on MC duties.
