Leezy is one of my two favorite pure spitters out of Tacoma these days. The music and presentation I’ve seen from him is on point, and this joint is one I’ve played a lot, off his latest mixtape (which you can find here).

I like Second Family for their grimy hood shit and their well-laid rhymes; this auto-tuned radio jam shit just isn’t up my alley in the Top 40 or the Top Left. Element of Second Fam is my other favorite Tacoma MC, and although this song ain’t it for me, he’s still a pro, and nonetheless sounds like he belongs on it.

This is more like it. Element comes off here and I love a good old fashioned West Coast car show video. The guy Logics, a tireless hustler, is not as naturally gifted with flow as Second Family’s heavyweight (just hear the differences when they split the hook up) but sounds about as good or better than I’ve yet heard him over this slapper from producer Tryfe. Plus: Kokane cameo.

EvergreenOne is a part of City Hall, Tacoma’s most fun Odd Couple crew: a willfully shitbag stoner graf kid (EV1) and a laidback, thoughtful 90’s beat revivalist (Todd Sykes). Their combo seems odd on paper but works nicely, on stage and off. EvergreenOne is prepping a solo release currently, all produced in snappy 808-state fashion by TrussOne; this is the latest leak from that project, typically random and belligerent, a fantasy of being a horny tallcan-drinking monster hunter. It reminds me that last time I tried to watch True Blood there were a bunch of freaky fairies throwing exploding fruit at Sookie Stackhouse, which makes me think Evergreen’s onto something.
